Train Sim Android with new Sounds!

Train SimulatorSounds Sounds Sounds!

After weeks of work I am finally ready to release the new version of Train Sim.  This is a huge update addressing one of the most common requests for Train Sim; Better Sounds.

Each train engine now has its own custom sounds for its engine, horn, bell and breaks.  When uncompressed there are over 85MB of new sound data.  I think the end result is quite impressive, giving the simulation a much higher level of realism.  As a bonus I also added a rain sound that turns on during the Rain weather setting.

In this update I also fixed some smaller bugs and made some minor improvements to the Country Loop Scene train stations.

Train Sim 3.4.5 Released

CTA 5000Train Sim 3.4.5 for Android is now live.  This new update features a new Chicago “L” CTA 5000 subway train with a realistic 3D driver cabin as well as a passenger 3D interior.

Also in this update are much requested
longer trains.  I managed to increase each train by at least 1 additional coach CTA 5000 Inside(without killing performance) and in some cases by 2-4 to match the exact historical configuration.  Opposite Trains also received a length increase.   Also in this update the Dash 9 Interior cabin has been significantly improved, eliminating one of the weaker 3D cabins in Train Sim.  I am currently working on releasing this update for iOS and Windows Store/Phone.

Train Sim All 3D Cabs

As promised in my Post in February, I have been focusing on delivering 3D cabs for all Trains in Train Sim.  With the addition of a 3D cabin for the Flying Scotsman my goal is complete and all 40 trains in Train Sim now have a 3D Cabin.

Flying Scotsman Cabin

Now to be fair not all the 3D cabins have the same standard.  The weakest of the lot are the Dash 9, LNER Mallard and the NY Hudson.  I will be focusing on improving these in the near future.  There are also a few Passenger Cars that do not have a 3D Interior that will have to be fixed.

However for now I am happy to report that there are no more 2D Train Cabins in Train Sim and that all future trains will also have 3D Cabins.

Flight Sim & Train Sim Updated

Flight SimRecently I was showing off Flight Sim on my LG Nexus Phone when I noticed that the map was not rendering correctly. I am not sure why this happened but it started happening after the 5.1.1 Android Update. So I decided to recompile Flight Sim with the newest version of Unity and the Android SDK to make sure it does not have any issues with the newest version of the Android operating system. From my personal tests it seemed to fix the issues.  There will be a larger update to Flight Sim hopefully within the next month as I am waiting for completion of a new airplane.

Train SimulatorAlso I am happy to report that Train Sim for Android was also updated to version 3.4.0. This is a minor update that fixes a potential crash with track switching and also a new 3D Regio Panter Cabin.  This leaves just a few more train cabins to convert to 3D.  After that I can focus on improving the Airport Scene and adding more Trains.

Train Sim – Subway Update

Train Sim SubwayA new version of Train Sim is now available for Android and iOS, featuring a Train Sim Subwaycompletely new and much larger Subway Scene. An updated Subway Scene has been requested by users for some time now, and I decided to not disappoint.  The new Subway Scene features 15 Stations and 3 outside portions.  Simply put, its huge!

This new version of Train Sim also contains another much requested feature, electrical poles! When running an electric train, the Metropolis and Port scenes will display electrical posts above the track.  I have not yet added this to the other scenes because I am not sure how well the electrical poles will look in the Desert.

Train Sim SubwayTrain Sim Future: I am planning to add additional subway trains and expand some of the existing train to feature 3D cabs with the eventual goal of having 3D cabs in all Train Sim trains.  Also electrical poles will for sure be added to the Airport Scene

One of the challenges I am currently facing is download size.  Train Sim Android is currently just under 50MB, meaning it can be downloaded as a single file.  Once I cross the 50MB file size I will be forced to split Train Sim into 2 downloads (main and additional content).  This is something I really do not want to do.  So I will have to spend some time modifying existing content to be stored more efficiently.  This will hopefully postpone this issue by an extra year.
